This quote explains how Ma Joad thinks. Even if her family does not have enough food to give she cannot resist giving food to the starving children, like how John Steinbeck describes the girl not taking her view of the food ma was cooking. This quotation proves that Ma is a kind person and that her love is not only devoted to the family but to everyone else around who suffers like her family does.
